Jenny asked Michael Finkel:

Why were dogs not used to find Knight?

Michael Finkel I'm not sure if the local police, sheriff, or game warden units employ dogs -- and anyway, Knight's case was one that fell between the cracks -- too pervasive to ignore, but not serious enough to devote a lot of time or resources to. I imagine that if there are police dogs in the area, they were used to sniff out drug crimes or help find lost hunters or hikers that did want to be found.
