From my experience most people either hate or love Kafka. I would start with one of his shorter stories like The Metamorphosis. If you like it you should definitely try The Trial.
Aggro
The beginning of this novel was indeed intriguing - but that's it. Everything asked in chapter one never found its answer. There's some poor work on psychology of characters, some parts are intensely boring and static, poor description of interactions. If you want to read something where you'll get the spirit of time people lived in; the contemplation of characters and the justice related plot - Crime and Punishment. Amen!
