Goodreads asked C. Gold:

How do you get inspired to write?

C. Gold For the short story I just published, I wrote it because I got excited about the eclipse that was going to happen on Monday. This was Sunday after the GoT episode was over.

Then I began thinking of a full eclipse during the fall equinox, because magic is always more powerful during solstices and equinoxes in other tales. From there, I tossed in a mad warlock king summoning a demon army and a husband and wife pair to stop him.

Then, because I also recently read a story about a woman diagnosed with Alzheimer's, I wrote the story's male protagonist with both physical and mental disabilities that would hamper his goal.

As I wrote the story and the eclipse event started (watched it online, thanks to Slooh) I added in details of what people were seeing during totality. I tossed in my own observations as well, here at 92% totality.

So, for that story, it was a combination of books I've read in the past, news on the internet, and a live event that inspired me. Other times it's dreams, crazy ideas that just pop into my head, or a desire to turn a trope upside down that inspire.
