Goodreads asked Cheryl Rainfield:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Cheryl Rainfield Read as much as you can. Read for the love of it, and read to learn from it. Read writing technique books as well, join a writing critique group, listen to the feedback you get on your writing but always trust your gut. Attend conferences or speeches on writing technique. Study the craft. And if you want to get published, make sure you send your most polished work out, make sure you research the agent or publisher before your query them to make sure they publish the kind of work you write. And don't give up. If getting published is really your dream, don't give up. It took me more than 10 years and hundreds of rejections before I got SCARS published.
