I know Alice Hoffman has written books for the YA audience in the past...is this one of them?! Kind of thinking my 12 yo daughter might enjoy. If not, pretty sure I will! Thanks, all. ~Leslie

Personally, I don't believe in censoring what kids read. I know that's just me and many people will disagree but there it is. Good readers know what they want to read and I won't discourage that. My daughter read Twilight (yuck!) but she also read Lolita and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas when she was 14, neither of which I've read, at the same time as re-reading Little House books. Take them to the library and turn them loose. Let them choose.

This is not a YA novel.
On the contrary I would be inclined to regard this as an OA (Older Adult) novel.

It's intended for an adult audience though it'd be fine for older teens.
Not sure the writing style/content would appeal to the average 12 year old, and there's sex and drug use as well. Non-graphic, but it's there.

I started reading this book, but found it to have a lot of sexuality, including a 14-year-old boy having an affair with a married woman. My mom looked at the book, and decided that it's not really for tweens. I would say 14+, though I only read a third of it.
