Do I need to read the previous books of the Shadow and Bone series before I read this or this is some fresh start?

It's a fresh start. You can read it without prior knowledge of the series but it references some of the world building and magic system found in Bardugo's Grisha trilogy and Six of Crows duology.

I haven't read any of her other works, and I still loved this, but there were references to the Grishaverse that I think I would've understood better if I'd read the novels.

Not at all - I haven't read any of her other works and I loved this. The setting may feel familiar to those who have read the novels, but to me it just felt more like a fairy story setting -unknown, magical and ultimately not something which affects your understanding of what is going on at all. All six stories were great and can definitely be read alone.

I would probably read the Shadow and Bone series first as this is a collection of short stories from the Grishaverse.
