Eskay asked:

i know that often cover designs have little to do with the book, but who do you think the people on the cover are? i assume neither is bobbi, as she's described numerous times as having a fringe, and melissa mentions her nose ring. it's not at all important, but at the start of the book i assumed they had to be bobbi and frances, and now i don't really think they're any of the main characters.

Helen O I don't know who the people are on the front cover but it did put me off the book. I think it makes it looks lighter than it actually is.
Ryan The cover illustration is not directly related to the text. The art is credited as "Sharon and Vivien" (detail), 2009, Alex Katz and thus appears to have been done prior to and independent of the text.

I agree that it was problematic for me when trying to form representations of the characters during my read.
Leigh The cover art is definitely a famous Alex Katz painting!
Shayne On the book version that I have, illustrated by Elliana Esquivel, the illustration is definitely recognisable as Frances and Bobbi as they both have fringes and it is noted in the book how similar the two of them look as people are often mistaking them for one another.
Sam I thought they could be Frances and Melissa, though that could be purely incidental and the art itself unrelated
Theresa Lazy, right? They both are described as having dark hair and being confused with each other.
Adis I have wondered the same thing! There's a second cover where both the girls have fringes!
Nancy the cover of the australian version is much better! not a cartoon drawing which makes the book seem much different than it actually is. the cover here is reminiscent of ali smith covers. this one shocked me when i saw it!
