Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Leah Weiss I entered a contest in 2011, about 6 years after I started writing in earnest, and it won. The opening prompt was "I struggle to my feet." That phrase resonated with me, and as clear as day, a young girl from Appalachia sprang to mind when I typed those words. That winning story just sat there for the next 4 years, a four-page story full of possibility. Then I decided to turn it into a book.
