A Goodreads user asked David Benem:

What do you think has changed most about your writing since you began working on this series?

David Benem Great question! I'd say my trust in the reader, specifically the reduction of character "thoughts" in the book. I believe I was at times too hand-holding when writing my first book, and used too much inner dialogue as a sort of crutch. In Book Two that's still there, but is used more sparingly and more meaningfully, I think. Also, Book Two is far different from the first one. The first I viewed as a sort of "internal" epic, with characters undergoing fundamental, personal changes through besting inner challenges rather than outer ones. Book Two has all hell breaking loose.

Thanks again for the question!
