Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Jessica Rinker I began reading Gloria's most recent memoir My Life on the Road, which intrigued me because I had no idea she'd traveled with her family so extensively as a child. That drew me in and then her writing completely captivated me as well, so I read more books by her! Eventually the idea of a picture book came out of my already devoted learning, which is why I felt it was a story I had write. I admire her work and life tremendously and I want young readers to see how a lifetime of listening to others' stories is so important to any social change.
