Brian Williams
Brian Williams asked April Henry:

I am currently reading "The Girl Who Was Supposed to die" and I was wondering, what gave you the ideas to write these stories, because I am a story writer myself but sometimes my mind goes blank?

April Henry Most of my books start with real cases (often cold cases). That one actually came from a song by Kathleen Edwards where a boy accidentally shoots a barnyard cat, doesn't quite kill it, and his dad tells him to finish it off. Listening to that song, I thought what if a girl woke up on a cabin floor and heard them discussing killing her. Some of the things I do: mind map (google if you don't know what that is - it was really helpful in case because at first I had no idea why they wanted to kill her), make a list of all the things that can go wrong, do a timed write where I can't stop writing, and even force myself to finish (because you can always edit something, but you can't edit nothing). Good luck!
