Jack Herbert Christal Gattanella asked Taylor Jenkins Reid:

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is so rich with film history of a certain kind from Hollywood to the French new Wave. Were there any specific films that inspired you or that you find you can just watch over and over again? Did you see bringing any cinematic elements into the storytelling?

Taylor Jenkins Reid I had a lot of fun diving into the different aspects of the film scene from the 1950s through the 1980s. I would say I spent the most time researching French New Wave only because it was the one area of film history that I'm less versed in. (I have a vague memory of spacing out during that time in my film history classes... oops.)

But for the research of this book -- and to create the behind the scenes feel -- I focused far more on the studio lots and the executives and the scandals rather than the films being produced at any given time.

Evelyn isn't all that interested in the *work* -- at least at first. Celia cares about her art. Evelyn cares about her image. The book somewhat reflects that focus.
