What, if any, advice would you give aspiring writers in the dystopian sub-genre ?

Dirk Patton Try to make your take somewhat unique to separate yourself from the rest of the pack. Maybe the reason for the apocalypse or the results. Maybe the characters. Maybe the location. And I would encourage any writer to focus on the story rather than the apocalypse itself. Think of the dystopian world as background music to what's really going on with the survivors.
