Kelly Seymour asked Taylor Jenkins Reid:

I have read that in order to be a good writer, you should write what you know. Do you agree? ( I'm a second grade teacher )

Taylor Jenkins Reid I do and I don't. I think that in order to write characters that are honest, you need to be calling upon feelings that you've felt in some capacity. But I don't think that means that you have to write your own life story.

I don't include many facts or situations from my own life in my stories but I do include ideas and sentiments I've felt before, problems I've faced. The themes and heart behind the story should feel real and a lot of times the best way to do that is to tell the truth as you see it.
