Deadlines.
It doesn't sound very glamourous or creative or fun, but if I don't have a deadlines, there's nothing for readers to read.
The fun is in the writing - I hang out in a chat room with other writers and we do lots of sprints and challenges.
I also make the writing fun for myself by including as many easter eggs and in-jokes as I can manage. They don't all make it to the final copy - sometimes they're too obscure or throw off the pacing - but it keeps me entertained.
