I know it sounds archaic, but I rely on muses and those muses tend to be women, but ultimately your inspiration to write is your passion, that is why they say write what you know. It is not true, write anything you want, but the point is the passion is what will drive you and make you create something better and see it through to the end no matter how many rejections you get.
