for future readers (i recognize you have probably read the book already and everything): definitely homophobia, and i need to agree with sarah, there is implied sexual assault. elements of child neglect are also present, as are heavy religious/borderline cult-y elements.

Homophobia, but I also felt like Miss Jewsbury took sexual advantage of the main character in a way (others might not agree with me.) The heroine was a teenager and was emotionally vulnerable and that was the only part of the book that I found disturbing.
