What’s the best thing about being a writer?

Rene Denfeld I think the joy of being immersed inside a story is something every reader—and writer—understands. Writing The Enchanted I felt like I was channeling a different voice. It was an absolute forgetting of self, an act of surrender to the story. The poetry that flowed from that voice was a miracle to observe unfolding on the page. I believe good fiction is in fact an act of deep empathy. We lay our own thoughts and feelings aside and let the story tell us the truth of others. This is why fiction can tell such a deeper, nuanced set of truths.
