After watching a comedy film about the Korean War with my grandmother, I started up a conversation about her own experiences of war. She lived relatively near Seoul during the war, which was completely decimated. I realized that the current Seoul I live in looks nothing like what it used to when she was growing up and began wondering what else had changed and what else had we lost because of war. Also, we rarely get to hear about the South Korean perspective in world politics, so I thought it might be worthwhile to trace the point at which South and North Korea went on such separate paths.
