Is it hard to come up with new ideas and where do you get your inspiration?

I think coming up with ideas is the easiest part of storytelling. It becomes a challenge to have enough time to write them all down! I take inspiration from everything from people I meet to historical sites I visit, from real-life situations to characters I read about, and then tweak them to fit into a diferent time and place.

I love books set in Scotland. Do you travel to Scotland often to research the settings for your books? Or just rely on memory, photos, books, the internet, etc.? How do you research the medieval time period? Can't very well go back in time to study it in person. LOL
