What do you do when you are writing a new book and get writer's block or stumped in a particular area?

I usually back up and start in a different direction, take a break from writing for a day or two, or try a different character's point of view. I don't often get completely blocked, but sometimes I can tell I'm headed down a wrong path, so it's mostly a matter of finding a better one.
