The author himself says that you should not get attached to ANY word. You can substitute the word 'God' with any other term you find relevant. In fact I quote Tolle where he said "The word God has become empty of meaning through thousands of years of misuse."
In any case, whether or not you don't believe in any higher power, this book is still highly recommended for you as its message is to live in the now and not to have any sort of belief. But to warn you, as the book progresses, it becomes a little bit more spiritual. :)

Depends on whether you object to religion or spirituality broadly. I couldn't make it past the introduction because this book is so stupidly spiritual and scientifically BS. But it's not focused on, say, a Christian conception of god.

As someone who used to be agnostic, this is not necessarily religious and did not feel like they were stuffing religion down my throat. I find that Tolle uses "God" interchangeably with "the universe" and does not mean it as one holy man figure that rules all. Mind you I am more spiritual now if that gives you a better idea of my perspective.
