Lenny I think because JG was the greatest representation of human perfection in her mind. Both men were unbelievably steadfast in their beliefs and while Rearden metal was important it came second to the creator of the engine of the world and all he stood for. He understood and foresaw that 'their' system wouldn't hold up if there were no more victims and acted accordingly.
