This line in the last chapter - "...sympathetic looks, for time had done what time does, but looks mohsin hamid of particular recognition,..." - is that an editing error or some new literary phenomenon I'm not aware of?

Peter In my ebook (Penguin), "mohsin hamid" isn't in that sentence.
Caleb L Moshin Hamid performed the audiobook and didn't read it that way, so I assume it was an editing error.
