Absolutely ADORED Marlena!! I was there, with them, living it, feeling it, loving it, laughing but mostly sad... and left nostalgic for a place I've never been and people I've never met... thank you SO MUCH for this book <3 Ok, apparently I'm in the wrong place (SO me) and this accolade needs a question mark before I can send it and I so don't like rules so gonna post here and here ya go: ??

Hi Julie! Just finished Marlena and it was a truly unique read. I loved that there were (not so subtle) undertones of the patriarchal, rape-culture society that we've come to just "accept," especially for women and girls of limited means. I am always drawn to stories about female friendships. I'm curious where you got your inspiration for both of the girls individually as well as for the story in general. (?) Thanks!
