Catherine Ryan Hyde
I've been on a two-book-a-year schedule for several years now. It usually takes me about five months to write a draft. Then I start something new, and take a break from it when editing of the previous work is due. Still, all the work of two books has to fit into a year. I have always written very fast, so this is not much of a change for me.
As far as themes and characters go, I do that more or less by feel. I don't really work it out on paper. If an idea feels too much like the book before it, I might let it go until a later date. But usually by the time I flesh out the idea, it's different enough.
Hope that answers your questions. If not, feel free to ask again.

I am delighted with the core ideas you present in Pay It Forward. What an inspiring life focus you have! Did you know that pay it forward is the active side of a core concept that is represented by the word forbearance? Forbearance is the passive side of the concept. These two words when taken together are more than either by itself.
