Ucif asked Catherine Ryan Hyde:

Good Morning, My question today : How much time you spent writing book ..i mean from toe to the top ..and my second question did you write many novel at the same time ? and what you do to keep your stories away from each others (example : novel one have tomfather, tobby son and novel two have gil father and peter son ) Thank you so much for your answer

Catherine Ryan Hyde I've been on a two-book-a-year schedule for several years now. It usually takes me about five months to write a draft. Then I start something new, and take a break from it when editing of the previous work is due. Still, all the work of two books has to fit into a year. I have always written very fast, so this is not much of a change for me.

As far as themes and characters go, I do that more or less by feel. I don't really work it out on paper. If an idea feels too much like the book before it, I might let it go until a later date. But usually by the time I flesh out the idea, it's different enough.

Hope that answers your questions. If not, feel free to ask again.
