I guess I'll toss my 2 cents in because we have 2 positive answers and 2 negatives here.
Yes, there are some supernatural/paranormal elements to the story. In my opinion, they do not detract from the story at all, and instead have a nice symbolic roundness to them. The big villain in the real world is linked pretty strongly with the big villain in the fantastic world. The events in the outside world are tied to the events in the fantastic world pretty well.
I'm a huge constant reader, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.
