This is an oldie but a goodie...write. If you want to be a writer then write. Write junk. Write great things. Write whatever is in your brain. Immerse yourself in writing. How do you do that? Read. Read in your genre, read outside your genre and read about writing. Seems redundant but honestly, there's a lot about how to form a book that just isn't natural even if you're a natural story teller.
