Having read several mysteries of yours, this - The Sign Painter - is so different, and has an outrageous feel of realism, from page 1. What inspired you to tackle this subject, and provided you the insight to build your story? At this point, I'm 88 pages in - but, given a few hours, I could really fly through it - which is good, and bad!

You are absolutely right, Tom. I am seeking to instill a greater sense of immediacy and vivid reality in my stories, even those with a supernatural edge. This summer's release, Island of Time, pretty much follows that same course.
