Do I need to read Code Name Verity before reading Rose Under Fire? I just bought Rose Under Fire without realizing that is the second book to the series. Thanks.

You can read Rose as a standalone - it is not necessary to have read Code Name Verity first. But Rose does contain some spoilers for CNV, so it depends how you feel about that.

My daughter just became an Eagle Scout. It's a big deal as her father was a big scout advocate and volunteer. He died in 2016 so it's bittersweet. Anyhow, typically parents ask for letters of congratulation from politicians or sports figures. We're big readers and my daughter is a huge fan of yours. Would you be willing to do this? How did writing books like Code Name Verity and Rose Under Fire affect you emotionally? Reading it was devastatingly sad (it remains the only book to have made me cry) and since an author is so much closer to their books than the reader, was it particularly difficult to write for this reason?
