Roar Fenne asked Mark Lawrence:

Hi. Just started reading Red Sister, and I came over this sequense in chapter 9; ""Then our visitors have either flown here on eagles or taken a very long walk in order to come upon us unannounced..." "Eagles?" Nona asked." "A joke dear." The abbess frowned..." I can't help but wonder if it is a slight nod and joke upon J.R.R. Tolkiens' eagles in his books, or just a happy coincidence? Either way, love it!

Mark Lawrence It was a slight nod, just as Sister Apple, the poisoner, is a slight nod to Snow White.
