How would you recommend finding "an excellent" editor? And, is it necessary to have a manuscript prior to that or is the idea and concept of a story enough to take to an editor? Michael

You can hire an editor yourself -- there are many freelance editors, just do a web search. I'd say to find a good one, have the prospective editor read a page or two of your work, and see what suggestions he or she may have -- if they make you think, "Wow -- this editor is right; these suggestions make my work better, and I wouldn't have thought of them myself," then you've found a great editor!

I recently finished The Stranger in the Woods and enjoyed it very much. I was especially struck by your relationship to Knight, which did not seem to be reciprocated; i.e., the lilac spring and apple pie that were refused; your concern about Knight’s admission to wanting to take a walk with “The Lady of the Woods.” What was it about Knight that accounts for your concern and feelings for him?
