Angie asked Glynnis Campbell:

I'm probably not the first to ask, but how do you think people in the mid to late 1500's would have reacted to the heroines in your books? Or at least the ones set in that time period.

Glynnis Campbell You ARE the first to ask, and it's a very interesting question! I think, although what we usually hear is that history records women as powerless chattel, we have to remember that most history was written by monks who probably WISHED that women were chattel. But if you dig a little deeper into accounts of the time, you'll see that women ran businesses, took over castle operations when their husbands were away, and often inherited land and titles. Recent excavations show just as many Viking soldiers who were women as men, and medieval humorist artists depict women beating their husbands. So the "women as chattel" arguments don't seem to hold up. I think human nature is human nature, no matter what time period you're in.
