Goodreads asked Stanley Michael Hurd:

What mystery in your own life could be a plot for a book?

Stanley Michael Hurd The only mystery in my life is why I'm compelled to keep writing. I have a perfectly nice thing going--why do I mess it up by agonizing over just the right phrase to say something others have said a hundred times? Curious, but there it is: I look forward to writing each day, and miss it if I can't.

Is it nothing more than egotism? Honestly, I don't think so. I just like the stories that come out. I'm not a plotter, or an outline writer--I let the story take me where it wants, and I love when it surprises me with a new direction. It really is better than reading.

So there it is: my mystery revealed. I apologize for such a weak denouement. :-)
