How did you decide to write mystery books and scary books like Girl Stolen and The Girl Who was Supposed To Die?

April Henry When I was in college, someone broke into my apartment when I was in the shower. While I managed to escape unscathed, it made me pay attention or think about stories in which a person is in a very bad situation and must try to get out of it. Almost all of my stories are inspired by a real life (although The Girl Who Was Supposed to Die was not) situation.
