How do you select the names of your characters? Thank you.

I look at lists of authentic names from the various time periods and areas in which I write and choose from those. I tend to like more unusual names like Lachlan, Deirdre, Ryance, and Florie. Since spelling wasn't consistent in medieval times, I try to use the easiest spelling to make pronunciation easier for my readers.
