Elisabeth Red asked H.L. Roberts:

If you could rate Big named traditional publishing, self publishing, or indie publishing in your opinion what would be 1,2, and 3?

H.L. Roberts Great question! This may be one that gets me in a bit of trouble with some people or make some people a bit mad at me, haha! So I would rather have to rate Indie publishing in first. I say this because you get a lot of hands on work with not only your publishers but artists involved with your book, its a lot more like a community and a lot less like tyranny. I would put self publishing in second because that gives you control of every part of your book from all rights, to say on how its advertised, and who does your cover art. Down part to this is your own money goes into this unless you do a Kickstarter and try and raise part of the start up fees. Finally I would rank the "Big 5" traditional publishing in third, the reasoning is that it has become nearly impossible to even get an established agent, who knows what they are doing, to sign an unknown author, guys it just doesn't happen often, if at all anymore.

There are a lot of "indie" publishers now an days that are just as established and well off as some of the "big 5" publishers. Seriously, I can name at least 20 that have produced brand new authors in the past year that have landed in the USA Today or NYT top 10 or even earning the ultimate spot as the NYT number 1 best seller.
