Anne
Anne asked Gill Paul:

Hi Gill, a question from your birthplace, Glasgow. I absolutely loved the secret wife and could not put it down. How do you weave the historical component and the fictional part together. Do you take a historical event in the first instance and invent the fictional characters and story around that ?

Gill Paul Hi Anne, Every novel is different but the research always comes first and quite often the story emerges from that. I tend to plan novels in a long outline (it stretches to about a third of the length of the finished book) before I start writing. I stick to historical facts in the small details, but might change the bigger ones (as you'll know from The Secret Wife). Thank you so much for reading and do give my love to bonny Glasgow. Hope to be up there in the summer. X
