How do you deal with negative criticism? Does it hurt your feelings or make you more determined? I am especially interested in what I would call "cheap shot" criticism.

I don't know if I've ever received any criticism I'd say was a cheap shot. I think I'll always have the attitude that I'll want to keep developing my writing skills. If one person doesn't like a particular aspect of my stories, I chalk that up to my work not fitting the individual's tastes. If a few people don't like the same aspect of my writing? Maybe that's something I need to look at in future books...
