I teach AP Lit to seniors in a high school. Any other teachers who have added this novel to the curriculum? I'm considering putting it on my summer reading list as one of four choices, but I don't really want to catch any heat from parents or administrators over content. Your insights/experiences are most appreciated.

I'm not a teacher or even a parent, but I mentor a teenager in a writing program. She goes to a top NYC public high school and was assigned this book in her English class. She loved it. She's a senior now--I've worked with her and talked about books since she was a sophomore, and I've been amazed by the sophistication of the books she's read in her various English classes, not all AP, and of the discussions between teachers and students, topics of essays assigned, etc. It seems to go down well with administration, and as far as I know the parents don't object. But I don't know how people would react in a different setting.
