How did you go about your research process for writing Lilac Girls?

I'm lucky I like to research. My son and I went to Poland and Germany to trace the route the Polish girls took after they were arrested for working in the underground. I also spent a lot of time in Caroline's three archives. It was like a giant scavenger hunt and incredibly rewarding.

I just finished reading "Lilac Girls" and it is outstanding as well as "Sunflower Girls." I am confused about Eliza being Caroline's mother and being a Woolsey sister during the Civil War. Now I am off to read Lilac Girls part 2 which features Eliza during World War I. Is Eliza just a popular family name because she couldn't have lived during all three time periods?
