Absolutely Marable's reassessment!
Unless ur a romantic -- only wish to swagger a "Read"-check with preceeding, source text.
At the very least, Manning's manuscript addresses everything you need to know about the autobio; Moreover, 'Reinvention' serves as the definitive "Afterword" to The Autobio of MX
...If You Only Read One.

One would say one has to read the "Autobiography" in order to understand what this book is about. It is difficult for me to figure out what I learned from this book and what is new because I have studied Malcolm X's speeches and writings about him for so long.
However, I would start with the autobiography; that is where I started, then read this.

The autobiography without a doubt. This book has some interesting and controversial material. It uses circumstantial evidence as fact. While the autobiography, while it has been crafted to reflect a particular outlook is no doubt the production of Malcolm X and Alex Haley. The next book would be Judas Factor by Karl Evanzz.

One of the most interesting parts of Marable's biography is the critical examination of "The Autobiography." To fully appreciate that section of this biography, you would need to have read "The Autobiography" first.

I think I read tAoMX, but It is on my list to visit again. I can't recommend it. Only you can decide. It is radical and If I'm remembering it was a tough read for me. There are a lot of horrible subjects out there and there are many more intense so I guess I'm saying try ten pages and then make up your mind.
