Engelbert Humper asked this question about An Era of Darkness: The British Empire in India:
As an Indian I find this writer's venom against Britain more than a bit embarrassing. Britain left India about 70 years ago and with all the resources of modern technology India could have solved its problems of poverty long ago, instead of being the world's greatest reservoir of human misery. The British did a lot of good in India and in their empire, as well as a lot of evil. United India without them? A joke.

FYI, Indian at the time of Independence, did not have any modern technology in hand. We had to struggle to come up. It wasn't so easy, as India was divided and had to deal with poverty, unemployment, widespread illiteracy, wars with east Pakistan, refugees from west Pakistan (now Bangladesh) and many more, thanks to the so called 'democratic British rule' in India. Coming to united India without the British- India was a huge country before the Britishers stepped on to the soil with their filthy shoes. And the day they left, India was divided and millions died from it. The unity of India, the past and future of the country wasn't British's business in the very first place. Even today museums in UK are filled with Indian artifacts, stolen and smuggled. Look at your history books, you people don't acknowledge and related yourselves to what your ancestors have done. And yet, post this question? A joke.(less)
