Hi, Michael. What effect, if any, has Chris Knight had on your life?

Michael Finkel Hello Beverly. Excellent question! Chris Knight really had a profound effect on how I understand the passage of time. I -- like so many of us -- live a hectic (I'd say too hectic) life, and I feel like I'm in a constant rush, frequently harried. I do have three young children and a time-consuming job, so that's normal. But Mr. Knight was so casual about the passage of time that it changed me. I'm not going to spend 27 years in the woods, but I now try and scoop out little chunks of time -- sometimes just 15 minutes a day -- in which I do absolutely nothing but sit quietly. No fiddling with my phone, no idle chit-chat. Just stillness, calmness. More than a dozen studies have shown that even a small amount of quiet time makes us better people -- happier, calmer, smarter -- and Mr. Knight inspired me to seek that quiet time. Thank you, Chris!

Did you ever purchase that cabin for Christopher? How did the publishing The Stranger in the Woods help him monetarily or in any way at all. Have proceeds gone to him? Christopher T. Knight is a profoundly gifted individual. His nature/nurture influenced the way he interacted with his surroundings. Not all children have the opportunity to be diagnosed and helped at a young age.

I was especially struck by your relationship to Knight, which did not seem to be reciprocated; i.e., the lilac spring and apple pie that were refused; your concern about Knight’s admission to wanting to take a walk with “The Lady of the Woods.” What was it about Knight that accounts for your concern and feelings for him?
