Emmitouflee Near the end of the book, there is a line that reads, "It feels like a cage was lowered over them all. A cardboard box. A bird box. Blocking out the sun forever." This line leads me to think that the experience of being confined in a boarded up house is reflected in the title choice of 'Bird Box.'

Lisa Alfaro Malorie thinks to herself, as well as the comment about the lowering of a cage when the birds go mad, something along the lines of how the whole world was now like the bird box, where there are creatures everywhere, surrounding them and there is nowhere to escape to, no freedom of the "old" kind to hope for anymore. They will never be able to walk outside, drive like before, now that the creatures have taken over. Like the birds in the box, they are confined to their houses/buildings or slaves to any gear they come up with to shield their eyes when outside.
Nuno Cerqueira Both answers are very plausible. I hope that the full answer will be given in the next book.
