This is definitely not a spin-off of "The Expanse". It is a fantasy series by Daniel Abraham, who is one of the two authors that make up the pen name James S.A. Corey. The writing style is very similar to "The Expanse", so if you are looking for the same style in a very different setting, then this is a great series.

Weird thing.
When I first bought Leviathan Wakes on Nook, this book was included afterward.
Like, I got to the end of Leviathan Wakes, and there was a whole other book afterward! (That might be why?)

absolutely not. It's not even a scifi, or necessarily set on Earth. It's a fantasy novel
