Finished Saint's Blood. I cannot wait to see what happens next. I definitely did not see The Blacksmith coming. Great stuff. I did have one question though. The types of dueling styles you described (Avertiere, etc), are those actual historical styles or just literary devices? I was on our High School fencing team long long ago so it piqued my interest and I couldn't find anything about them on the net
Sebastien de Castell
All the duelling styles were invented for the book to reflect the mindset that would suit those engaged in trials by combat within that society. To my knowledge there's no comparable list of duelling styles in our own world, which tended to focus on specific fencing styles as taught by particular masters (Capo Ferro, Fabris...etc.)
Thanks for the great question!

Greatcoats mean so much to me. My whole youth I was very ill and thus alone with a lot of nasty experiences so characters who manage to remain idealistic and friends are so inspiring and uplifting. Despite being a grown woman I wept in many scenes. I can't read on my own anymore but my mom is reading it to me again and loves it too. Q: Your site mentions "upcoming Greatcoats Encyclopedia". Is that still in the works?

I finished Spellslinger a couple of days ago and I absolutely loved it! The magic, the action and all the characters were awesome (after all, it's not every day you get to read about a talking squirrel cat). My question: Pretend you are a powerful Jan'Tep mage, but for some reason you can only spark a single band. If the choice was yours, which would you choose (including shadow) and why? Thank you!
