Denise asked Catherine Ryan Hyde:

Catherine, your books are amazing! Of the books I have read so far by you, they are so different I can't pick just one favorite. I am looking forward to reading more! Which story was the hardest for you to tell or find to write? (if that makes sense)

Catherine Ryan Hyde Hi Denise, I'm so glad you're enjoying the books so much. Thank you for letting me know! I think Pay It Forward was the hardest. I knew what I wanted to say, but I had to find the story that would fictionally say it. I knew I was trying to represent an idea that could potentially find its way to every person on the planet, and to do that I would have to get into the heads and viewpoints of many characters. And I had to create a utopian world without being so over-the-top corny that the average reader would set the book down in disgust. I'm not suggesting it's my best (it was written about 20 years ago, so I hope not) and I don't focus on it the way this answer makes it sound like I do. But it was different from other stories I've told, and in that difference I found difficulties.
