Goodreads asked Anika Aldamuy Denise:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Anika Aldamuy Denise My best advice is to FINISH your drafts. I heard a writer on a panel say recently that often the only difference between an unpublished writer and a published writer is finishing.

I also like Stephen King's advice about writing the first draft with the door closed (meaning do not share it until that ugly first draft is done.) Then put it aside for awhile. After that, share your story with a trusted group of readers for critique. Critique groups are invaluable. Find one and join! And become a member of professional organizations for your genre.

Revise and persist! Good luck! :)
