Goodreads asked Seana Kelly:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Seana Kelly Read. Writers are readers. The more you read, the more you internalize patterns of storytelling and grammar. Observe. Pay attention to the way people move, behave, react, and speak. Think. Why does she hold her hand over her mouth when she speaks? Why does he stuff his hands in his pockets? Empathize. If you were in that person's place, how would you feel? What would you want? What would you fear? What would you need to learn in order to earn what you want? Then, write. Write what you like, what you're interested in. Tell the kind of stories you love but that are uniquely yours. I love Toni Morrison's quote "If there is a book you want to read, but it hasn't been written yet, then you must write it."
